The weld neck flange is butt-welded to the pipe through its tapered hub, so the wall thickness transitions gradually into the pipe wall and stress concentration at the joint is greatly reduced. It is the workhorse flange for high-pressure, high-temperature, flammable and other critical services in petrochemical, refining, power generation and long-distance gas transmission lines.
