A lap joint flange is used together with a stub end. The flange ring rotates freely on the stub end, so bolt-hole alignment is effortless. If the bolt holes wear out, only the ring is replaced - no pipe cutting required. It is widely used where frequent dismantling or difficult alignment is expected.
